============================================================================== THE FAMILY TREE OF NORTH AMERICAN RAILROADS ============================================================================== This is a compiled chart of major North American railroad mergers, takeovers, and controls. Most are since 1900 but exceptions may occur. Railroad names represent the railroad handling part of the corporate entity, if different. By major, I am limiting the chart to Class 1, former Class 1, or major Regional lines. This chart represents only the "top" of the chart. Many roads had predecessors too numerous to include here. No tourist or commuter operatio ns are included unless they also haul freight. Trains magazine publishes an excel ent list of the former once a year. I may add commuter RRs sometime later. All information is correct to the best of my knowledge. Drop me a line with corrections or additions, particularly dates, at: colemanc@er4.eng.ohio-state.edu "The Great List of North American Railroads" is a comprehensive list of these railroads and ohers which will be avilable in a few months.
